NEW YORK YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB, INC. OPPOSES USE OF CITY FUNDS FOR PARTISAN AGENDA

New York, NY - The New York Young Republican Club, Inc. (NYYRC) calls on the New York City Council to remove partisan ads attacking Governor Pataki from their website, www.nyccouncil.info. The City Council has banner ads on their homepage linking to websites attacking Gov. Pataki for the amount of state money allocated to state schools.

The NYYRC opposes the New York City Council using a taxpayer funded website to launch attacks against the Governor. NYYRC President Dennis Cariello remarked "It is an inappropriate use of taxpayer funds to launch partisan attacks, particularly during an election year. Could you imagine the public outcry if the Republican controlled Congress were to start putting partisan attack ads on Federally funded websites?"

The NYYRC also opposes the Campaign for Fiscal Equity, which the City Council is attacking the Governor on. President Cariello commented "Rather than adopt their own fiscal responsibility, the City Council has decided to attack the Governor for trying to keep the state budget in line." President Cariello continued "They have jumped on a politically popular idea, money for schools, and used it to further the Democrat agenda while ignoring the fiscal responsibility that the state has to the taxpayers."

The New York Young Republican Club, Inc., is a not-for-profit political organization that exists to bring Republicans aged 18-40 together to discuss the Republican Party platform and aid the Republican Party in the education of the public about the Republican agenda and the promotion of Republican candidates for office.
