THE NEW YORK YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB, INC. CALLS ON SENATOR KERRY TO DENOUNCE ADS FROM MOVEON.ORG AND OTHER 527 GROUPS
The New York Young Republican Club calls upon Senator John Kerry to follow the lead of President George W. Bush in denouncing advertisements sponsored by so-called 527 groups. 527 groups, like MoveOn.org, use private “soft money” donations to fund divisive advertisements. Recently, President Bush criticized the work of these groups, including groups that have been critical of Senator Kerry, saying “I don’t think we ought to have the 527s. I think they’re bad for the system.” .
Sadly, Senator Kerry has failed to follow the President’s lead on this important issue. In fact, Mr. Kerry has relied extensively on the slash and burn tactics of 527 organizations. Indeed, hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent by these groups in support of Mr. Kerry’s candidacy already. Moreover, he has welcomed such help, despite ghastly and irresponsible advertisements, such as those comparing President Bush to Adolph Hitler. Senator Kerry and many prominent Democrats have been silent about these extreme advertisements when they were critical of President Bush, but now they have ignited a firestorm over the ads from Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, because they are potentially damaging to the Democratic presidential candidate.
Senator Kerry must call for the cessation of all advertisements by these 527 organizations – not just those critical of him and his record. The New York Young Republican Club, Inc. is a not-for-profit political organization that exists to bring Republicans aged 18-40 together to discuss the Republican Party platform and aid the Republican Party in the education of the public about the Republican agenda and the promotion of Republican candidates for office.
