THE NEW YORK YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB, INC. PITCHES IN TO AID OPERATION IRAQI CHILDREN:
On Monday evening, July 26, members of the Young Republican Club, Inc., along with members of the New York Delegation to the Republican National Convention, volunteered to pack, and ship scores of school supplies they donated for Iraqi school children as part of Operation Iraqi Children. The organization - launched by Oscar-winning actor Gary Sinise and Seabiscuit author Laura Hillenbrand - is dedicated to providing educational supplies to Iraqi schoolchildren. Last night, seventy-five volunteers packed nearly 1,000 kits full of pencils, crayons, notebooks, and other school supplies gathered by Republicans throughout the state in a growing effort to rebuild the educational system that was sorely neglected by former dictator Saddam Hussein.
Since President George W. Bush led a coalition of the willing to defeat - and eventually capture - Saddam Hussein, American soldiers and other volunteers have worked tirelessly to rebuild the country's derelict schools. Iraqi children have come back to these refurbished schools in droves since the fall of the Hussein regime, and Operation Iraqi Children is dedicated to stocking the schools with sorely needed educational supplies.
Through the School Supply Kit Program, American children, church groups, and other organizations are helping Iraqis by gathering school supplies in local drives, assembling them in kits according to OIC's instructions, then sending them to Heart to Heart International for transport to Iraq, where our soldiers will take them to Iraqi villages. Please visit OperationIraqiFreedom.org for more details about this valiant undertaking.
The evening was part of the 2004 Republican National Convention's Compassion Across America community service program. New York City and State Republican organizations intend to make last night's event just the first dedicated to supporting the noble efforts of Operation Iraqi Children. The New York Young Republican Club, Inc. is a not-for-profit political organization that exists to bring Republicans aged 18-40 together to discuss the Republican Party platform and aid the Republican Party in the education of the public about the Republican agenda and the promotion of Republican candidates for office.
